Activities

Can You Find?

After reading the book (at least once) go through page by page playing Can You Find. It goes something like this.

{on the first page}

Mom, “Can you find the airplane?”

Child- points out the airplane

Mom, “Can you find the sun?”

Child- points out the sun

Mom, “Can you find the penguins mommy?”

Child- points out mommy

Once you have exhausted that page turn to the next page.

This book has darling illustrations that are true to most homes, at least mine, with cars, trains, books, instruments, strewn around the house to create the perfect environment for children.

Variations

  • If your little one is having a hard time with this or you want to mix it up you can always point to the object in the picture and say, “What’s that?” Have them identify it.
  • Or another variation would be to switch roles, have your child ask you to find things! They will love being in charge and trying to trick you!

Favorite Things

This little penguin shares with us his favorite things. Discuss with your child what their favorite things are. This will look different depending on the age of your child. Doing this will create a closeness with your child, you will know their secrets and you may be surprised by their answers! I do something similar to this on my child birthdays, but I RECORD it on my phone! If you want to cherish their little voices and answers pull out your phone and catch this conversation on video!

For Little Ones 0-1 (those who aren’t talking yet)

  • Tell them things that you have seen that they like to do. Maybe its a favorite game, a favorite toy, a favorite food, favorite book… you know your child and can giggle with them as you talk about them. They will love that you know them and will be excited when you talk about their favorite things!

For Bigger Ones 2-3

You can either ask them what their favorite things are or direct the conversation a bit more by asking questions.

  • What is your favorite food?
  • What is your favorite color?
  • What is your favorite animal?
  • Where is your favorite place to go?
  • What is your favorite shirt?
  • What is your favorite book?
  • What is your favorite song?
  • What is your favorite Princess or Disney Character?
  • What is your favorite thing to do outside?

Do One of Your Favorite Things

No that you have gone through and established some of your little ones favorites, find a favorite that you can do RIGHT NOW! Read their favorite book, sing their favorite song, eat their favorite food, play their favorite game or with their favorite toy!

Draw a Picture for Mommy

The little penguins time with mommy is his very favorite, sit down with your little one and draw a picture of the two of you. Do it together!

You can be holding the crayon in their hand, sharing a page, or sitting side by side coloring together. If you each have your own page give yours to your little one when you are done.
