Friendly Fox Discussion
The fox was so friendly! He shared his hot air balloon with everyone who wanted to go with him. What are things we can do to be friendly like the fox?
Being Happy Discussion
This fox is an excellent example of being happy even when things don’t go according to plan. Point this out to your child by asking questions like “What was the fox excited to do?” “Did he make it to the moon?” “What happened instead?” “How did the fox react to not getting what he wanted?”
Use those questions as a spring board to taking about how we can handle things when we are disappointed and things don’t go according to plan.
Sensory Invitation to Play- Moon Sand
Make Moon Sand! This is also used in an activity for the book The Wish Tree this month. So when you make it save it and use it for both activities!
The Fox was trying to get to the moon! He didn’t quite make it but if he had what would the moon have felt like?! Use this as a sensory experience and imaginative play!
- 8 cups Flour
- 1 Cup Baby Oil
- Safari Ltd Space TOOB
Mix the flour and baby oil together in the container. Set put the Toobs Space figures, cups to make mountains, rocks to make craters, and let your little one imagine and play!
Make sure that you don’t demonstrate what to do with the materials, just let them discover and pretend as they go. You will be amazed with what they come up with!
Make Your Own Hot Air Balloon
A simple and fun way to make your own hot air balloon using things you already have on hand! Your kids can set off for the moon with their 3D Balloons gathering all their friends along the way! Once your balloon is made have your little one start adding pennies or toys into the basket, have them weight it in their hand (holding the bottom) so they can recognize the weight change. You can even go so far as to talk about gravity and that the more weight in the balloon the more gravity is pulling on it.
- 2 Paper Plates
- Plastic, Styrofoam or paper cup
- 2-4 Straws
Color both sides of the paper plates.
Cut a slit from the outside into the middle of both on both plates.
Slide the plates together to create your balloon.
Tape the straws into the inside of the cup sticking up and out.
Tape the balloon to the straws
(If you have a Styrofoam or paper cup you can design the outside of it with the markers too!)
Gross Motor- Moon Craters
This is such a fun activity! Make your own moon craters using a ball and shaving cream moon! Get your little one up and moving as they create moon craters with the asteroids they send flying!
